Post here how you came across creating your network. What made you decide to take on the title "Network Administrator?"

Cool topic man...why did i decide to start a irc network....well to be frank...i was getting pissed off with certian major irc servers in S.A where the admin take their friends word above those of the users...Wanted to start a place where my friends could chat without shit from people that dont like us...and a place where everyone gets a fair chance to state their sides before banning and akilling....and thats how 4everlost was born...and good thing is...all of my chatters are friends...and we know each other personaly....we spread through word of mouth...*grins*...and cant say that we have had lots of problems.....*smiles*and you how did your network start ??

2 reasons.

1> too much BS and lag on large nets.
2> I've never found a net that I liked 100% (and I've visited hundreds).

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

*ahem*

We have two or so girls on our net. I think I've met, what. Another 20? And how many of those were 60 year old men pretending...

Sorry. That's probably enough stereotypes for today Smile

Because the network that the other network founder and I were using at that time (november 2001) was getting shitty...

So we decided to start our own network and keep our friends together all the time..

After a name change on August 2003, StarByte is a friendly network with 100-user peak on some times :)

And many of the friends I have (on Real Life TM) nowadays I've met after they started using my little network.

TBH, I started my network originally on 127.0.0.1 just to play around with differnt ircds/services. When I started I never thought it would go public. But a few friends wanted to connect, and then they invited their friends, so I got a shell, and started the network Winbots.org.

Well to begin with I was a part of another network for 5 years and I learned a lot, and when I got my first shell I setup an server and linked to that network, but I always wanted to have my own network with my own rules and where I could run whatever I wanted without following any other network rules so I delinked and bought myself a domain and started StarIRC.

I guess my main reason for making this network wasn't just because I wanted to have my own place to be on, but also because IRC is fun and I am having fun running my own network whether its big or not, because its not like I started just to control others or have my private play ground.

I also wanted to learn more about stuffs like compiling servers, setting up services and proxy scanners, those terms was things I never had done before.

I use to run a music community... which eventially had a java irc chat placed on it. We use to use quakenet but got sick of it.

so we made an irc server just for the music community

a couple years later i closed the music community....... but since people have opened other channels on the network... so we changed its name, and make it into a proper irc network.

Still quite small though

well, one reason was that, whatever network i've been on, i've tried to help out on, and i got sick fed up of being a normal user, who can't /kill or /gline the little kids who come up to you, when they notice you're not completely clueless and they're like '' dude, do you have a copy of S D Bawt? i hear it's 1337 '' and so on. plus, as with many others, i find that a lot of networks set foolish rules, and application of the rules, and the oper policy is dependent on whether your friends with opers/ the owner.
so i figured i'd start somewhere without the bullshit.
a 'scriptkiddie free zone' so to speak.

Well...try to guess how I created all the networks I created...any ideas? well you're all wrong (I guess) because I created one just for the pleasure to create one. Having responsabilities and stuff... Then it became a buisness, now I'm a coder. Razz

I used to run a trivia chan on msn chat. When it closed in oct 03 I needed somewhere to carry on hosting a trivia chan. Tried out on a couple of nets but it wasnt working so i deciced to get a shell and do it on my own. Still going over a year later on there and lovin every min of it!

I did it becuase basically :
1) A quality net on my net's topic did not already exist
2) I knew a few people who were clueful and wanted to join
3) I wanted the experience, and the oppertunity to learn.
