| Q: Why is it called LA-Chat when the domain used is matrix-phase.net? |

We considered a name change to Matrix-Phase, but everyone prefered LA-Chat for the network, after we purchased the matrix-phase.
The main channel is still #LA-Chat, regardless of the error.
Thanks for pointing that out so other users can understand why.

A-Dubb,
Do you own the domain LA-Chat, and are you in the process of switching back to to using the LA-Chat domain name on your website and servers? As the situation is now, SearchIRC will list your network under Matrix-Phase, and list LA-Chat under "Other names for this network".

Could you please make it list as LA-Chat. We are known as LA-Chat, its just the server name comes up as Matrix-Phase. It was a error with our domain and shell providor.
It would be much appreciated.

Hey A-Dubb,
I don't want to make this difficult for either of us, so perhaps an explanation to show you where I am coming from will help clear things up. :)
SearchIRC gets about 25 network submissions per week for networks that call themselves one thing and have a totally different domain for their website and servers. I think we've had about 36 submissions for "Undernet" - often turkish or romanian admins who admire the large network and want to name their IRC net the same thing. "DALnet" is also popular because its the default name in the IRC software. Mostly though its just admins who liked a name but found it was taken when they went to register the domain.
You can call your network anything you want, but obviously we can't list one network 18 times if it has 18 names, nor can we add 37 "Undernet's" or 10 "DALnets" or an Ebay.com or Google.com that has no association with those companies. Plus, we could probably add another server to SearchIRC if I had a nickle from every admin who writes to me "I know you just added X IRC net last week, but I own that domain and I am no longer associated with the rest of the network. Please point X IRC net to my new network."
We have to have rules. A logical rule is, a network MUST own the domain of the name it uses, and use that domain predominantly when it identifies the network. We look on at the round robin, MOTD's, server info, contact info, webpage and/or individual servers to see what the network calls itself. If it calls itself by more than one name, as in the case of LA-Chat/Matrix-Phase, then we look to determine which name is used most. That is then the "parent" network and any other names are listed as "other names".
Your network calls itself LA-Chat, but that domain does not resolve. Instead, you use Matrix-Phase on your website, emails, round robin, and servers. Now, I have no problem breaking our self-imposed rules if I have a good REASON. A reason would be if I knew your network owned the LA-Chat domain, and was in process of changing over to actually using it instead of Matrix-Phase. |

Thank you. Our LA-Chat Network (Irc.LA-Chat.Net) is having DNS problems at the moment.
We have a webpage for LA-Chat, maybe that would help. The Link Is Http://www.La-Chat.net
When we fix our DNS problems, could we then switch to LA-Chat instead of Matrix-Phase?
Thank You
A-Dubb
