okay, so I did something stupid. i set my nick kill setting to immediate, and now I can't use my nick, because it kills me before I can identify.

uh, so, is there any way to get it back besides waiting sixty days for nickserv to drop the nick?

If you mean that you set your nick to kill anyone who doesn't ID to the nick in time, try doing it ahead of time by identifying to the nick while in another nick.

/nickserv identify yournick password

That might let you identify to the nick while in another nick. Then try changing to the nick.

If that doesn't work, if you are using mIRC or some client that has perform options on connect, add /nickserv identify password so that you can identify before time is up. Make sure to put the network in so that it IDs in the right place.

I've never heard of anyone bothering to have the option to force nick change immediately so that's a new one to me. If these options don't work, you will have to ask someone for assistance to reset it.

Well firstly with regards to the identify as idea, that only works for services that support it which is fairly limited. And the "immediate" option for kill suggests possibly Anope, which doesn't support identify as.

The idea behind the kill immed option is you set your access masks for your Nick to match you, then set kill to immed, that way anyone who doesn't match the masks, gets guested/killed, and anyone who does is giving an indefinite time to identify.

Depending on the services settings you may be able to identify to another nickname in the same group and then change to that one... (or possibly group another nickname to the same group then change.. although it may take the same immed settings - not entirely sure).

Otherwise you'll have to ask the network staff to remove the immed option from your nickname.

pro idea. change your nickname to something unregistered, then use /NS GROUP NICK PASS to group this new nickname to the old nickname. i'm not sure if the IMMED setting will be shared between nicks, but when you group the nickname you will automatically become identified, allowing you to change to your original nick and remove the kill setting.
