Abolish the Network Announcements forum

Hi,

Given the fact that:

a. A substantial portion of the posts to the network announcements forum are networks which die in as little as a few weeks, and;
b. Most of the networks which announce on that forum go ahead and spam elsewhere on the boards [1] [2] [3], and;
c. The network announcements forum has been neutered to the point that it is not useful (e.g. you can't provide feedback, but you CAN on the searchirc network pages);

I recommend eliminating the Network Announcements forum.

Additionally: many people will spam their networks in some random thread, but I can't be assed to find examples of that right now. If we're going to mass-edit the location field so that people can't spam their network there, then why do we encourage other spamming?

The Network Announcements forum is just causing a mess these days, and should be removed.

I'll agree - the Network Announcements forum is somewhat of a mess. As nenolod adaquately pointed out, most networks posted there these days usually end up dying off/merging with other networks within a day or three. I don't even bother reading posts in that forum because, to me, what's the point?

I'm in the same boat, it seems rather pointless, especially when posters spam everywhere else.

I have to say I agree too, it has gotten to the point I dont even bother reading it anymore because most posts in there I consider spam and a waste of time anyway. After all, it only ever seems to get used for the same thing, all new networks saying they exist and want users.

You guys should think of it as a place to make announcements, and also a place for me to move network "spam" to. It also doesn't show up in the latest posts on the front page because of that.

Part of the problem is that there are no real moderators.

Who among you would you guys recommend for the position? The ideal person would not take posts personally and not have a huge ego.

nenolod should get it since he has taken quite a bit of time to do some research and provide urls to go with his theory and more often or not makes some good points.

I think its quite fair that pingbad also turned down the oppertunity by saying nenolod was good for the position, that would make him a pretty tidy person i think as power of position is not a bother to him it seems.
