Whois taking care of cleaning up the network list now JohnB seems to have left?
It's gettin messy.
For instance
Latest server list:
irc.ConfusionX.com
Jupiter.ConFusionX.Com
Saturn.ConfusionX.com
irc.krazy-irc.com
420.krazy-irc.com
EleCtriCk.krazy-irc.com
destiny.xXiLe.net
Fate.xXiLe.net
eXtreme.krazy-irc.com
pwnd.krazy-irc.com
Confusion, Krazy-irc and xXile are clearly on network, though they are listed all 3
And this is just one sample, i could name a few more.
Imho, it's making the list less usefull if not maintained.
Btw, i thought teh bots were able to determine network merges themselves?
Apparently that doesn't work 100%
Just my 5 cents,
Pberetta

Peer, JohnB was never involved with this aspect of SearchIRC.
/me points her finger at Jason.
Many networks have servers that do not use the same domain name as the network. It is certainly preferred, but it is not a requirement to be listed on SearchIRC.
I can't give away all our secrets, simply because while the vast majority of admins are very up front and notify us of merges and such, there are some that go to great lengths to deceive SearchIRC into listing them more than once. However, you are correct that we do not catch 100%, and the example you used should not be listed as three different networks. I am going to take care of that right now.
Thanks for the heads up. If you (or anyone else reading this) sees anything that is out of order, please don't hesitate to PM me. |

Actually the system catches all of these, but it's a matter of having someone investigate to see which one should be listed, and which should be removed. Something an automated process cannot take care of.
We also have automated processes that will stop the indexing of a network if it KNOWS which one is the real network, and spots a dup in a second, but like I said above, if it can't tell which one is the true network it just makes a note of the dup and sends us an email with the info.
