Amazing. I was browsing through the network lists, interested in seeing if I can find a large network that doesn't allow warez.
I was unable to. Every single network I found that had over 1000 users had warez channels on them.
The only network I could find that didn't have warez was dalnet!
Do such places exist anymore? |

ya doubt dalnet is warez free ... they have a channel called
#xxxpassworld with (413) users.
Would be nice to see a network without any such thing - but i think network admins need to step up and either clean it out or new networks to join up and keep it clean.
Seems wikkedwire.com is on the right track ... not that i want to plug someone else's network - but i'm willing to give credit where credit it due. |

| There are several networks with >10k users that are warez free, and not really hard to find in any network indexing service. |

with notable worth, DALNet currently 7th largest, has 30k users and very little warez for the user base it has. Yes, there is some still there however I think it's commendable for a former top dog to go from 120k users while suffering from huge amounts of DDoS attacks for months on end and abolishing warez/mp3 channels very agressively. still sports an impressive user load.
1 channel of the top 5 is warez, but on a net that size, I'm sure 1 channel with 400 users in it can be ignored. |

Any f-server channel can be a warez channel, no?
There aren't 100% free warez network, in my thought.
What you can have are networks with "almost none" warez channel. A 400 people channel on a 30k user network is almost nothing, no? :)
Just my $0.02 ... |

| wikkedwire still has warez "chat" channels, such as their top channel is the channel for pheonix-torrents.com. |

Gamesurge, QuakeNet, DALnet (if you take into account what Katsklaw said) all spring to mind. I'm sure there are others if you check. |

Well there are legal files shared on bittorrent, but yes, we have some "torrent" channels but I make sure there are no bots sharing files. |

| Well I think the conversation is getting too specific .. anyone with DCC abilities could essentially be warez. However I think the jest of conversation is channels obviously created for that purpose such as the above mentioned #xxxpasswords .. otherwise stating there is warez on all networks wouldn not be inaccurate simply because an Eggdrop with file sharing turned on could essentially serve illegal files. |

I doubt they are truly warez free. They are just better at hiding it than others. Meaning, if they name the channel "#warez" it will get closed. If it was "#funchat" it might never be noticed. |

| Well obviously nothing is 100% warez free, but they're pretty close. On a large net there's a never ending stream of users prepared to grass each other up. :) |

great responses - but wouldn't it be in the best interest of the admins of the networks they currently run - to make the rounds now and then and make sure the amount of warez is reduced ....
also dalnet does not hide it's warez and neither does Quakenet after i took a tour early this morning. (several servers have no warez magpie?? or a few would be more accurate)
i do not consider torrents warez - the major distros (slackware) use torrents to distribute their ISO's - how would you even categorize that as warez.
when checking servers/networks - i think to stick to the point - the one's actually using huge amounts of bandwidth and sharing massive mp3 and x-rated movies is what i call warez - those are the one's admins should be focusing on.
and that's my 2 cents.... |
