More changes coming your way :)
- New today is http://searchirc.com/irc-quotes an IRC quotes section that lets you browse IRC quotes through twelve categories. You can vote on the quotes, and submit your own.
- Discussion boards (forums) now have rules posted, you can read them at http://searchirc.com/forum-rules.php
- Smaller networks who had a robot visit them every 3 hours, are back to being visited every hour. I've worked out the bandwidth issues :)
- Misc changes on many pages, but I forget what changes I made so I can't list them here :P |

IRCQuotes are really cool :)
it would be better if u sort them by votes. |

It's pointless to sort them by votes now when the quotes page was just added to SearchIRC.
In a week or two, when there are more quotes and quotes with votes, I plan on adding additional sort options. |

| iigor, features like Quote lists are very susceptable to abuse. Imagine someone posting 5000 spam messages at 4 am, or html code that would hijack you away from SearchIRC to a website where you would be infected with a virus. By reviewing submissions before adding them the list, and by only allowing registered users to submit, we can deal with problems before they end up in your face. ;) |

| New change today -- all networks that have over 100 users will have their userbase graphed on the network pages. Since we're indexing all networks at least every hour, the graphing can be activated on these networks, whereas, before with a sample rate of every 3 hours, the results were not acceptable. |

Strike that, I'm going to lower the limit to 10 for graphing. The change should take effect within the hour.
One of the problems with graphing only at 100+ users, is that anytime the userbase dropped below 100, it wouldn't graph, causing the graph to look really bad on those networks.
Here is a sample network graph. As the day goes on, it should start filling out. Currently, you can see that it suffered from the "under 100" issue..

I wrote a new script tonight, it finds all duplicate channels in the database. I think we removed a total of around 10 dup networks that had merged with other networks. Most were very small networks that would have been difficult to spot normally. I'm confident that we now have the most dup-less listings around :)
Also, I'm working on an addition to the network pages -- a messageboard of sorts, specific for each network. I might have it up tomorrow, details to come. |

| Just to let everyone know, there was a major OS upgrade yesterday. Due to the upgrade, the robots were not online for several hours. Everything has been double checked and everything appears to be functional. If you spot anything amiss, let me know. |

Network pages now have a "Network Forum" page where users can post questions/comments.
The reason for this is, the majority of the posts we get from the "submit info about this network" has been from users who want to recommend the network or post what they think about the network. Unfortunately that was not the purpose of the "submit network info" form.
Now with the network forum, users have a place to post about their favorite network!
Hope everyone likes the addition :) |

| Just FYI Jason, the usercount graph for my network didn't update for a few days, but its working again now (don't know if you were up to something, but its nice and level from tues-sat, and I know the usercount wasn't during that time) |

| Keep an eye on it and let me know if you see problems. It shouldn't have stopped, but there could have been issues with connecting. |

| About 10 IRC networks were added tonight, and about 30 removed for not being online anymore. |

Some misc changes...
1) Networks under N number of users get an immediate disconnect after /list. This will prevent the robot from staying on and monitoring a split server, as evident by what's happened in the last day on Undernet:
2) Top5 ranked channels for each network now takes into account more than just channel size. I found some channels on Undernet (among others) that were flooded by floodbots (3000+ users) that only had that userbase for a short time period. Because the channel was only seen once, the "avg users" was also the max users. So the channel ranked in the top5.
The top 5 now ranks only channels seen in the last 24 hours, who have been seen more than once. This should cut down on false channels being listed.
3) Top5/network external jscript links now open in a new window when clicked on.
4) Top100 channels now also have the same rules as item #2 (goes by chans seen in last 24 hours that have been seen at least a few times).
5) Thanks to James for pin pointing the error - using Styles Revert in a MyChannel no longer breaks the MyChannel. |

Misc changes:
1) Fixed a pruning problem with the network forums. Instead of pruning the posts over 100 for a specific network, it was pruning ALL networks soon as the total post count went over 100.
2) Registered users must validate their account before they can use it. Previously, you needed validation to use it on the searchirc forums, but you were allowed to use the account without validation on the network forums and irc quotes pages. Due to some problems with a spammer, you will need validation to use the account.
3) Form on the 'link to us' page had a missing /form, and has been fixed.
4) "add stats to your website" has been updated to only allow for listing of all channels on networks with less than 10,000 channels. Networks with more than 10k chans should use a search box instead of a page by page listing...
5) Lots more networks added! |
