Is the scrawl bot based on any other bot? and how hard was it to code it.. also.. do you know any other bots thats are open source that would basically do the same thing, and that one could modify to do other things.

| scrawl was coded by Jason, as far as how easy/hard it is to code one, all depends on your skill level. |

scrawl is just a simple socket connection.
If you know C, you could download darkbot and use that as a basis to learn how to write a bot. I think juice has up version 2, which was a stripped down darkbot with basically just socket code and a few very basic functions to let it connect to a server. |

scrawl connects every hour to most networks. On the larger networks it stays online without disconnecting.
If it's not connecting every hour, you might have other issues... |

I just ran the robot for that network and found this:
*** Connecting to: irc.chatnation.nl:6667 as scrawl
*** Connecting to irc.chatnation.nl using local ip of: 67.15.22.156
It sat there for a minute before I gave up watching it. The server it's connecting to is slow, or you have a dead server listed in your RR..
I'd guess the server is slow, since at night when things calm down, you claim the bot is connecting. |
