I currently run a small network (irc.syx9.com) that runs Hybrid 7. We don't offer the usual services (ChanServ, Nickserv, Operserv) but we have something similiar to CHANFIX on efnet. My question to the general IRC user, you, is: Which IRC services do you guys prefer? CHANFIX, or the Standard Services?

If you don't know exactly what CHANFIX is have a look at: http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/ircd/chanfix/

Just wanted to get an overall census so that I can better serve what little amount of users are on my server. Smile

Try efnet for chanfix
All it does is reop the one with most points in a chan monitored by chanfix when it gets deoped

I don't understand why anyone would prefer CHANFIX/OpenCHANFIX over channel and nickname services. The main idea here is to give the users more benefits and control over their needs.

Yeah, for a little while I liked simple services like GNUworld and OpenCHANFIX because they didn't have so many features (with the thought that less features is better), however, I have reverted back to channel and nickname services for the features (learning that sometimes those features come handy during difficult times).

GNUworld and OpenCHANFIX are generally controlled by network operators, and therefore become an annoyance to users who want to have services for their own channel. For example, GNUworld requires a network operator privileges to register a channel.

chanfix gets my vote, running an eggdrop isnt that hard, server admins provide enough from running an ircd without the need of services though i do see the point of those who like services and dont disagree with their choice in running *Serv services at all, personal preference at the end of the day.

My 2 cents Very Happy

Essentially, I like *Serv services better as they have more features for the advanced user. They are more flexible, and they are better at preventing takeovers. They also have many features (such as nick / channel ownership, and sending messages to people who're offline) that chanfix does not.

EFNet existed without services for a LONG time...... the fact even they are moving in the direction of some kind of channel service by using chanfix seems to me to be a testament to how users prefer networks with services over those without.
