it's a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz with 512mb ram, all im wondering is, is there a way i can get this down so it won't eat as much resources up.
Thanx |

Karl knows nothing =P
There is nothing wrong RAM wise, the compile went fine, no errors in the log file, its not making gigabyte log files, and it connects to the irc network fine, its does everything its supposted to, and more, it decides to eat up ~80-90% cpu, along with the Request bot, which when running makes it shared out about 40% to R and 60% to Q
ive tried several other builds [all older] and when i execute it, it tells me it cannot bind to the specified address, even when using 127.0.0.1, the external IP or a non-existant IP.
the build i am using is 4.10 off jake0.org.uk
any help greatly apreaceated, ty, sYs_eRr0r |

Just to clear that up, i am using build 4.10 which *works*
*all* other builds give me that error (builds 3.99 and 4.00) |

| Fyi, build 3.99 is the only official release, and it DOES work. Any other version of Q that is out there (i.e. 4.00, 4.10) are simply more bloated than the original. :) |

My services take up nearly 8M of ram, and I only have 100 users. Having Q take up 2m of RAM is honestly surprisingly low.
The CPU usage is high though...... are you sure it's not sending/recieving/parsing unnecessary messages?

This problem is with R where it enters an infinte loop causing this cpu usage you are seeing.
Q shouldnt use this much at all, mine only uses 1.3% mem with 0.0% cpu usage.
Id suggest looking at the source as it would seem as mentioned by ashen sending/recieving/parsing unnecessary messages, try and run R in the console, not using nohup or sending all output to /dev/null etc so you can try and debug and track down the problem.
Q however is outdated and again as mentioned is the only offical release, the ones modified by the other coders have no indication as to what changes as made, so its likely bad coding by them is whats causing these problems. try the one on qnet dev-com site and apply the AC patch to make it function correctly. |

heh, Q is a bug =)
4.10 causes 99% cpu usages... so please use 3.99 or 4.00 if you cannot get 3.99 running. magpie don't blow me :p |
