|
|
hey all,
Well done on a very helpful forum!
Ive been reading up on setting up an ircd for a little while now, and ive decided now to make a valiant effort. But theres one thing i dont understand:
Ive got a name registered at Godaddy.com, [ ausnet.org ] now ive been told to point the nameservers to the shell im running. Is this info provided by the shell provider?
Im ok with everything else.
Thanks in advance! |

| ask your shell provider for the ip address your ircd is going to bind to then set a A RECORD in your dns (domain name server) settings on goddaddy.com so it points your domain or sub domain to your shells ip address ..hope thats clear enough |

Heres an easy way to setup your DNS info to point to your ircd,
you can get a free account with Zoneedit.com and use that program to point your domain to diffrent ircds and to a website if needed.
Its easy to setup, all you do is sign up for a free acount, tell them the domain name, and they will assign a nameserver to you. Then you go to your godaddy account and you can point your Domain to the nameserver. Then go back into zoneedit, and then setup your irc redirects. like irc.ausnet.org and then servername.ausnet.org This will allow users to connect to you via the default irc.ausnet.org or bye the name of the server. |
