Hi. We are currently a small network with like 4 servers who is trying to find out how to set up a DNS pool. We could really need any good suggestion of pages where it can be done, we already own a domain with the name StarIRC.org, however more ips to one host can't be added, example Irc.StarIRC.org can only link to one ip through the control panel of our domain name, so we need a place to set up a DNS pool for our network. Rather cheap or free. Please reply to this |

heh, noticed in my weblogs some visitors from this site. Dunno who you are guest, but thankya. For sure Admin-StarIRC I'll hook you up. DollarDNS hosting is unique in the power it gives you over your domain information. It's not as easy as more controlled systems other domain hosts have, but I do offer free management and will set everything up for you if you need me to. |

StarIRC: If you can afford it, don't put all your eggs in one basket, ie, don't just go with one DNS provider. If you can find 2 that are reliable, then you're solid-if one goes down for maintance, etc, the other will stay up.
Redundancy doesn't hurt-it will ensure your users will get on, all the time.
Good luck |

Actually not really. I've noticed sometimes when a domain doesn't resolve for me, I would check it out, and find that some of its name servers were down, and others were up. This does not always mean resolvers will bypass down servers and go for the up ones. It would just mean your domain resolves part of the time. So by having too many name servers, you risk reliability.
The strongest advantage in multiple name servers is distribution of load. That's what multiple name servers was most intended for. |
