I'd never hear of Clarkconnect until you posted this. After a bit of research though it appears to be another linux distro based off of the Red Hat Linux Enterprise family using kernel 2.6, with their added modules/additions. Can't tell you what exactly they may or may not have changed, would have to do more digging and reading.
Different people prefer different operating systems and distros, so really the best advice would be to simply give it a try and see how well it performs and how comfortable you feel using it. I hope this is helpful. |

I have openSUSE on my laptop, and Ubuntu on my Netbook. I like both of them, though I have seen a few distros I wanna give a shot I'm comfortable with the distros I use and I'm gonna stick with them.
A lot of people seem to like FreeBSD for running IRC servers so if you haven't already maybe you could give that one a shot. Slackware is another popular one for running IRC server so maybe give that one a shot too if you haven't already. |

FreeBSD is pretty good for most servers I would say, but for personal servers (where you install stuff) I wouldn't recommend it. I have a copy (yeah I have a alot of distro's in my house ), but I'm too lazy/stupid to figure it out. For one I can't get my damn connection to work with it...
As for Slackware, many people say that it's a dead project, but it has a few 'children' like Mandriva, which uses alot of it's technology. |

| One you definitely don't want to use if you're a beginner is Gentoo, that distro makes everything a pain to install, and it takes a long time to install too. |

| As a ClarkConnect user myself, I find its web interface very intuitive and straightforward (rarely would one need to SSH/Console the box once setup). That said, the "Intrusion Prevention" module (I forget the exact name, but has the internal name of "snortsam") is rather, well, nazi-ish. |
