Hey all, I don't know if you guys have seen spammers spamming the same ad around IRC. These are the ones that spammed me at my friend's server and other servers.
[06:11] [Vastasio] We're Now Seeking For A New IRCop, For More Info Type /Server -m IRC.x.Net -j #Morpheus
[09:26] [Donny] We're Now Seeking For A New IRCop, For More Info Type /Server -m IRC.x.Net -j #Morpheus
[15:17] [feazer-rupt] We're Now Seeking For A New IRCop, For More Info Type /Server -m IRC.x.Net -j #Morpheus
[13:10] [Aphobis] We're Now Seeking For A New IRCop, For More Info Type /Server -m IRC.x.Net -j #Morpheus
I even went to that network and asked what was going on and they didn't even said anything. And thought people from that network is doing this so they can gather users, But who knows..
So guys, if you see these nicknames just boot them off your server or channels.
Best of luck :>)

Hello, I am ibanez, and I am a network administrator for irc.p2pchat.net

First off, I want to apologize for that spam you are receiving.

Second, We don't condone spamming on our network at all. Ask around, I am a spamfilter nazi.

The people who are spamming are trying to get us into situations we don't want to be in. They go from network to network spamming our network name, trying to get us attacked. I do apologize for all the spam. And we have received countless visits over it, some understanding and some not so understanding. If you are using unreal add this /spamfilter add cpn gline - - *irc.p2pchat.net* and if they come back, that will take care of it.

If you have any questions or comment, well you know how to find me.

Again I apologize for all the hassle and trouble it has caused.

Sincerely,

ibanez

I will confirm to the reply by ibanez. I've gotten that spam from the same guy on my network, which is glined now. After making a visit to p2pchat and asking about it, I was welcomed by some very friendly users who told me the spammer had no affiliation. They told me the net admin does not condone of it and that if I wanted, to leave the IP/host for him to forward it to ibanez.

Great network by the way ibanez! It is not your fault and you have nothing to be sorry for.

Yeah, these spammers went around 4 networks im on, and spammed the same thing, I went to ibanez's network to see what was going on, The users in his main channel were a little cheeky.. such as "We own your networks eck" etc, Either he has somewhat a few bad users, Or his opers are spamming whilst he doesn't know about it:

Other than that, it's a good network, just some newbies spamming it around.
The best thing to do is add a spamfilter.

Hehe, Another server got spammed too just about a few hours ago:

Quote:

[-21:37:42-] <Countrywide> DDOS
[-21:37:43-] <Countrywide> DDOS

*Edit, this must be someone who is in charge of opers, I doubt someone would be stupid enough to spam that sort of message if they werent a netadmin, etc. I also doubt that people that are not part of the network (such as staff) would spam it around.
Unless the "l33t" way to get users is to spam and pretend to give them olines to get their userbase up

Eck, there are those who'll connect to other networks posing as staff for one network (irrelevent of wether or not they're welcome on that network) giving the network a bad name in the hopes that it'll annoy the "wrong sorts of people" (aka: thems who can (but shouldn't because they could) DDoS/hack/smurf/etc)

PS: Logs are kind of value-less around here (way too easy to doctor a log)

Earlier lastnight, someone with the nick "Barrage_" came onto the network, just a few seconds before the spambots, also when i connected to the network mentioned above in that log, he was sitting there in that channel, I told ibanez, showed him a few mb of logs, (hardly can be doctored in the space of 2-3 minutes), something wrong there, as he said he'll ban the spammers.

A note on Barrage_ in regards to Eck's reply just a few posts above, he posted here on SearchIRC that he's looking to be ircop for a network. I talked with him to see what his skills and experience were and what he could do and such. He begged for net admin (global oper wasn't good enough for him) and services admin. So I don't really trust him. Just thought I'd give a heads up.

Shame the IP/host you pasted is masked, as it is now pretty useless information. However I do have an actual connection IP for countrywide, but I think it is against this boards policy for me to post it. Just my 2 cents though, if a user does something silly like spam then any rights to privacy they had is null and void.
