Well hello there, I am a IRC shell provider along with other items I provide IRCd shells, and I was wondering if there was anyone which way to get a IRC hosting Requests and Offers boards on these forums as this is all about IRC. I do realize that there is only one other board of this kind out there, and it is not well staffed. I know me as a provider would love to have a forum of this sorts. This is only a suggestion for SearchIRC.

I agree with the idea, however the inner pessimist in me can forsee the same situation we had back in 2005/6 when anyone could reply to topics in Network Announcements unless it is properly covered in terms of conduct.

Strike me up as a supporter of this nonetheless though

Since I sell web hosting, I would like to see something like that too. I could offer discounted rates for anyone needing a website for their irc network?

Just a thought

While I could see how this could provide a useful service for both parties, I also wonder if there could be issues with hosting companies getting into wars of words with each other and ex-customers/regular users. The only other issue is the few "rogue" shell companies out there whom are not on the total up-and-up, that might need to be watched for. I am not saying host companies simply take advantage of people, as a majority don't, but there are a few out there. Other than that, I think this is a good suggestion, and would support it.

i think the resulting gripes, accusations and complaints from both vendors and customers would outweigh what little usefulness the proposed section would provide.

I know that there may be some trouble makers but if you think about it.... How hard is it to find an irc vps or even dedicated server from all the hosts out there? Having to scroll thru a lot of AUP's and TOS's just to find that IRC is not allowed? I think this here would provide something to the IRC community!

Yeah SearchIRC may have to hire a few more moderators just for this forum, but moderators are needed and my suggestion is to have someone moderate this forum that is not a part of a hosting company but does know his way around IRC.

That's a quite good, and smart suggestion bubblez. I do agree with it being someone who has no associations with any hosting company, so there is no unfair biasness/favoritism.

The problem is that the name and purpose of this site is to search IRC .. namely IRC Channels, which as mentioned elsewhere is the main goal of SIRC.

Currently, commercial content is forbidden and IMHO should remain that way.

Not only will allowing such a forum to be created cause additional workload on SIRC at absolutely not benefit to them, but could indirectly place liability on SearchIRC, which I really doubt is a position SIRC Staff really want to deal with.

I can however agree with someone setting up a separate domain and site for performing this task and mentioning it here and other irc related sites like irc-junkie. I'd even consider advertising my own shell hosting services on such a site as there are indeed very few good sites.

Well then if that is so I would personally do something about that and Create one its just I personally do not have the funding availble to purchase a domain name at this point. If anyone is willing to help out Please let me know, I can provide my own server, along with my web design team to create this site.

NVM Have found the funding for this project!

To let everyone know the forums are now availble at http://www.irchostforums.com/forums/index.php
This is just to find a hosting product, not for discussion IRCd's, links etc.

Website as well as adspace will be availble within the next few weeks
