I haven't read this whole thread, but from what I have read ... you should pick a better network.

As a Network Admin I wholeheartedly believe in the fact that an IRCop can remove any user for any reason, including no reason at all. However, it's not in the best interest of the network to do so.

Not neccessarily.

Sometimes the net admin will have given his good friend Billy who just got mIRC yesterday an O:Line. Billy types /helpop ?opercmds and gets interested in the GLINE command. Now Billy and Frank are happily talking in #Happy, when Billy accidentally lets "the 'f' word" slip. Frank kicks/bans Billy from #Happy for profanity. Billy decides that Frank is a great person to test /gline on, and boom. There goes Frank and Billy doesn't know how to undo it.
I've seen it happen.

Other times, Billy will be an experienced user in IRC and Frank will be applying for an O:Line. Billy was recently told he was "skating on thin ice" and is afraid of having his position taken away by Frank, and decides to put an end to the threat by G:Lining Frank (pretty stupid, but people still do it)

Still other times, Billy will be bored and joins a channel of IRC amateurs. He tells them they were doing something they shouldn't have, even though they werent. When they say "Why should we listen to you?", Billy uses OperServ to force them to do his will, then G:Lines them in an effort to prevent them from talking to staff.

These are the most common scenarios for "unfair" k/g:lines I've seen. It could have been any of these, and really unless the network is completely stupid I think that if the net admins knew about this they'd be pretty upset with Billy Wink

Lay down and do as i'm told? Channel owners deserve the right to handle there channel it as they please. Network owners have the same I will agree.

I'm letting others know what they may expect on this Network. Hopefully having the Network change. It has potential should it[change].

The problem with this user was that he registered a java user's nickname, waited until the user logged on, and then used /NS GHOST Nick password. When we see this kind of abuse, the nickname is dropped and the user is permanently banned.

As you don't state your affiation specifically with NeverNet I would like to know what that affiliation is, and where you get your information.

I have been on NN for quite a while now, and have known about this situation as it happened. I have never heard of any abuse done by CaveGuy. He is a user in our channel and has never been anything but polite, even when we had a ban on his channel.

Just a reminder that every network listed by SearchIRC has a section for Reviews and Comments. If you have an honest review, or helpful comment about the network, please let others know how you feel! The network listings are very popular with users who are looking for a home for their channels. Your comments could help a channel owner who is considering that network, from making a mistake, and guide them to a network that will welcome them and treat them fairly.

To leave a comment about a Network:

Goto the Homepage of SearchIRC then click "networks" near the top of the page. Place the name of the network in the search box. Next window shows that network, click on the Network's name on the line showeing the number of users and channels. Then a window with "general" infomation and reviews shows. On the left see button for "reviews and comments" click that. Toward the bottom of that page see "want to post a comment? click here".

What don't you understand? :)

Every network has a Reviews and Comments section. Its another way we hope visitors to SearchIRC can learn more about the networks we list.

Go to http://searchirc.com/network/mirc-x and scroll down to the bottom half of the page. You'll see the latest comments for that network. Note the network closed very suddenly, and many users posted in an effort to find friends and regroup on other networks.

You can see the full list of comments by clicking on "Reviews and Comments" in the list on the left side of the page, or "User comments..." just above the comment field. If you want to post a comment of your own, scroll all the way down to the bottom to where it says "Want to post a comment? Click here"

Users are invited to post about network news and events, your experiences good or bad on the network, thank network staff or channel owners for exceptional service, advise friends of mergers and channel moves, look for long lost friends, etc. In other words its a clearing house for anything to do with that network. Post and hopefully someone will see and respond.

Only registered users may post, and you must observe our Terms of Service just like you do when posting on these forums. In other words, NO SPAM, and although legitimate complaints about a network are permitted and we encourage network staff to respond, we do not allow personal attacks from anyone. Please remember you own your own words when you post anywhere on SearchIRC.

random nonsense..

Perhaps the reality of the inflammatory posts by CaveGuy would help to clear up the situation.

For the past several months, he has not, in fact, "helped" in network help channels. He has done nothing but question the policies and decisions of nevernet and their fairness on issues that had little or nothing to do with him. Despite numerous allegations of improper conduct throughout the course of CaveGuy's channel presence on nevernet, I supported him and attempted to keep things peaceful.

That he claims to have "tested" the network staff by prohibiting co-channeling with "my" channel, is incorrect. He banned his "children" from an official network help/support/chat channel because he did not think his underaged friends should be subject to a place that doesn't allow words worse than "poopie" to dare be uttered.

The discussion of the matter became one greater severity as CaveGuy was denying a network-provided service to the users. Attempts to reason with him failed miserably. As a result of vicious arguments, threats, and gross violations of network policies, he was banned from the network. His channel was turned over to the channel's successor and the matter was considered closed, in the best interest of our network and our users.

Interesting, also, is that a large number of the users of his channel are still on nevernet. The basic point of his post is to point out that some people will concoct facts and create memories of things that just didn't happen as he claims, as can be supported by numerous people.

I cordially invite any and all people to visit nevernet and to see that we're "just not like that."

With kindest regards,

Elijah

Since 1999, Founder and Network Administrator of Nevernet IRC.

Is it really power abuse to forcibly remove you from the network because you were denying service to other users, in the form of kicking them out of YOUR channel because they were in a network-owned channel?

No, it isn't. Get over yourself.

YOU were in the wrong. Grow up and admit that.

You whined and bitched because your privately-owned channel wasn't recommended in a network-run help channel. Too bad. Those are the rules, swallow your pride. Nevernet cannot be held responsible/accountable for what goes on in private channels, so we cannot recommend them to users. Those are the rules. You made a mistake, so live with it.
