Hello,

1rc-chat.net is looking for some bots, perhaps games on irc.

filesharing is welcomed too.

does anybody know how to set it up properly?

we would be strongly interested in file sharing bots.
we have relaxed rules when it comes to our servers, bot & clone friendly.

please see us (talk to nugg!) on irc.1rc-chat.net or mountainchalet.myftp.org

ps. we even have a designeted server for all the bots, scripts and clones you can handle. the server is mountainchalet.myftp.org

I doubt that you will get much positive responsein lieu of this subject. Most users of this community look down upon it. Just a fair warning for you Smile.

Well that would be the problem. The owner or representative of a networkpublicly stating that they would like file sharing bots and then anyone who would like to share publicly stating that they will on your network. That is why there arn't many. And then most of us are admins who don't like the fake user counts it gives off and etc.

Let's say the RIAA does peruse this site and these forums (what better way to find #warez channels, or lists of networks than from a site dedicated to serving up that kind of info, right?) - then the RIAA (or someone affiliated/working with aforementioned organisation/entity) would come across your call for fileserving bots thus putting you right in the centre of their radar.

So, yeah, smile for the radar Wink

it seems like some of you guys are flat out paranoid.

i've been running fasttrack server (still running, by the way, the same url [mountainchalet...] on port 4012) for the past 4 years.

nothing.

i've been running file sharing channels for 2yrs, still nothing.

in order to really get under their radar you really have to annoy BMI, or other major record company.

also, first they send a cease&deceist letter to you. THEN if you don't follow up they get pissed off.

when it comes to file sharing on irc: most networks battle it, hate bots, and other scripts.

when it comes to 1rc-chat.net, we simply don't care. you can do whatever, and admins mostly aren't even there. the network has 2 main servers: one protected and one not. the unprotected server is there to allow pretty much everything, while the protected server makes sure that we don't get spammed in our #main room.

simple.

besides, too many networks play off on 'safe chat evnvironment for families' type of motto. searchirc is full of them. of course, as soon as you join, you have admins breathing down your neck, asking pointless questions and monitoring every single room, since there are only 3 anyways...

our network runs as a hobby, we use mostly college resources [i'm not going to waste time explaining the whole thing...], we set up a very advanced website, and we do what other college people are supposed to do: drink, get laid, get free music.

SO, back to the point. Does anybody know how to set up additional bots/scripts?

No not paranoid, using common sense.

Just a thought, but imagine if distributing warez or attacking networks by means of DDoS was deemed an offense worthy of capital punishment (aka execution) - pretty sure both would vanish overnight

Heh, hate to go offtopic, but you brought up a rather buried memory... Back in '02, a bunch of website graffitti artists defaced the riaa.com site (among others), inserting/modifying a link entitled "Where can I find information on giant monkeys?" which pointed to Hilary Rosen's profile (at the time the defacement happened, she was current CEO, no idea if she still is). Now I imagine Hilary does enjoy the odd spot of travel, quite likely by flight... so putting 2 and 2 together, I'd say monkeys can fly.

lol pingbad...

there are networks like citren which have tons of warez, and nothing ever happens; at least as far as i know.

if you only knew how much an average college dc++server shares, you would then realize that irc is very insignificant...

I'd prefer it if IRC wasn't used to peddle warez - period

as far as I'm concerned, it hasn't reached flaming (there's been no petty name calling, bickering or anything like that) - thus far, it's just opinions being brought up and discussed afaic
