To all IRCd owners about to give up hope of ever getting users. I have a (arguably selfish) offer.

I currently run a load balanced Unreal+Anope IRCd network comprising of 4 (more to come) servers linked. Scrap your hub and link your network to mine and merge the users, it gives us all far greater chance of succeeding. Those who link will be given global IRCop (should they prove their competance well enough).

irc.reflexirc.org

Look for me.

that many servers for such a low usercount is completely pointless. you need a max of two servers for redundancy purposes; any more servers will just create more annoying netsplits.

also shouldn't the administrator of a server get server admin as opposed to global op..?

Im going to agree with greg27 here.

The 9 users I saw on your network when I looked (4 on one server, 2 on 2 and 1 on the fourth) is barely a need for one server never mind a whole network of 4. I dont mean to put you down, but to be honest, 4 servers for 9 users is way too many servers for 1 channels worth of users (if that)

However, good luck with your venture.

The idea is to provide a service to users, not to promise (and break them). So they can already see the IRCd has capacity to hold it's own in heavy traffic situations.

Haven't had a netsplit since it was up - had two links which were from poor providers which I removed from round robin DNS and then delinked once no one was connected.

It's all manageable.

However, on your comments - I agree globops was a bit brash. Thanks.

Orbixx, many other networks, including CollectiveIRC, can make the same offer to you. Infact, I will make you an offer. 22 users isn't really alot. It's just as easy for you to drop your servers and point your DNS to a larger network and create a channel to chat in.

My personal opinion is that I think it's a good idea to consolidate all the smaller like minded networks into a larger one, because that is exactly what CollectiveIRC does ... but your approach was a bit tacky IMHO.

So if YOU want to boost YOUR networks numbers .. drop by irc.collectiveirc.net, join #ircmojo and we'll discuss it. Smile

Actually my our network 1rc-chat would be interested in linking with another network, either through collective irc or simply joining another network/linking.

Please drop in by our forum to discuss this!

http://1rc-chat.net/

We have 3 servers which we're planning to link.

No.

Pawlicki, I tried contacting you through your IRC server, but I was instantly banned for being a bot. Come idle on my IRC server, I'll be back in a few hours.

Orbixx, A piece of friendly advice from one admin to another, you might find for your users sake that it's worth looking into setting up aliases (/ns, /cs, /nickserv, /chanserv, etc...)

At least one of your servers doesnt have them set up, but I like many other users find them helpful and useful, and not only that, they also make using services easier for beginners.

Anyway best of luck with your project.

PM me the exact error/ban reason provided and I'll look into it. BTW, Jobe is our Routing Manager and would likely b the one fixing it anyway. Smile

Our Global BOPM should only ban you for using known bad hosts on IRC, open or insecure proxies or tor. We don't use email spam blacklists or any other form of blacklist that is not related to IRC.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention Jobe. I forgot about that, since I don't use those aliases.

Mojo, if you had read properly - you'd have seen I was talking about pawlicki's network, not yours.

I'm not sure who would ban you, maybe a misconfigured bot?

Anyways, I'm still interested. I'll idle around on your box, pm me please.

It's on my to do list, in fact I'm doing it right now - just been incredibly busy recently. Please idle on the IRC 'til I'm about. I've been at work all day.
