On the 12th September Rob Levin, known to many as Freenode's lilo, was hit by a car while riding his bike. He suffered head injuries and was in a coma. Rob was being treated at the Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital in Houston, Texas where he passed away in on Sept 16th.

Sad day for all.... the rest of the quote is on the freenode homepage.

yeah, I heard about this along the winds... and one group calling themselves the GNAA (a group lilo has had run-ins with, according to his blog on bloggage.com) are having a field day over his passing. When will people show some maturity?

wow, sad. just wondering how does a network gain control of a dns if the person who owns it dies? cause that will mean anyone who wants it could backorder it and the net could go into someone elses hands?

back to the topic.

Dont know him at all from the internet, but even though it's hit his network, staff and users hard i do send my condolences to his family and friends in the real world too.

Its just a tragedy when things like this happen and not even able to live another day to tell the story himself.

rip.

Rob Levin (lilo) was head of staff there, he did not provide/host/run the services nor probably operated the DNS/websites/etc. He just used to help there.

You can idle and ponder in irc://irc.freenode.net/#lilo-memorial
If you want to show respect to family and close friends.
