|
|
| My friend is thinking about compiling the best of multiple IRCd's together, and then do the same with the services and protection, use different programs, and compile the best of each, then he is considering combining all those together, to have and IRCd/service/protection in one package, having them all in sync, I'm all up for this, but I'm still new to the coding world, and I wonder if any of this is possible? If it has, I wonder if its ever been done before. |

If its been done you wouldn't post here...
How can you combine ircds :/
just use inspircd or unreal..
irc services,anope or atheme...
every ircd is in different codes I highly doubt your friend can do such thing... |

| every IRCd has its own different way of parsing traffic internally.. different coding standards, your friend would probably spend the better part of 6 months hacking apart code and basically working out how each ticks (and thats just IRCds - services would be another 6 months on top of all that - at least). The actual coding of the final product would take a significant time again... best of luck to you and your friend. I'll for one be interested to see a true hybrid "intercourse" (if you will) of IRCds and services packages |

| of course he won't be working alone, he has quite a few friends who are really good at coding, and so do I, we're looking (Part of my idea) to replace much of what mIRC scripts usually do, and make BotServ highly customable, somewhat of an eggdrop, and when its done (no telling) we'll certainly get back on details. |

| At this juncture of so many of these claims I feel it comes down to put up or lets not talk about it all till there is something to see. I have seen serval dozens of ircds die during this stage, and never get to the light of day. So when you or your friend have something so show lets see it and let people decide |

| true, but there will most likely be a prototype in 6-9 months, then everyone can decide. And most likely as in 60% chance, we'll just have to let time decide.. |

| Personally i think services should be kept out of the package unless you have NO plans to make it networkable. My resoning for this is you wont want to install the full package complete with services on every server. The alternative is to have an install option and install services as a module so it can be left out of a simple server installation. |

| the final goal in this department, is the complete removal of most channel modes, so if the services are integrated into the IRCd, you can set channel "options" for example, cs_botserv kick flood, +f is a whole lot more powerful function in catching flooding in a channel, well setting the service to set up this option without so many dificult commands to recieve this option, for those who are just learning how to use IRC services. We're also hoping to set "mods" such as if you want to set an "RolePlaying" channel, set in a command that you want the channel to be specifically to roleplaying, channel options will be set to favor your choice.. |

Sounds like an interesting concept, but thats all it is right now.. a concept.
I'm sure many others have also came up with this concept as well. Their are tons of problems i could see in "merging" all these ircd's together.
Although, i could see a pretty good atemp, (or maybe even a sucessful push) to a new IRCd with all the features of the popular IRCd's. I would love to see a new one peek out.
Good luck to you. Remember though, don't expect anything more then a good luck, until you guys come up with something to show the public. |

| I know, my friend is currently studying every IRCd and IRC service at the moment, looking for the strengths and weaknesses of each one, and I know, that the chances are slim, but we're gonna try anyway, once we get a prototype out, I'll inform on how its doing.. |

| lol, alright, I'll probably get back to you in 6-10 months, this will take quite a bit of time x_x;' hopefully, we can start the most stable, most relyable IRCd and features for the service that would completely remove the need of mIRC scripts, and protection that is near perfect.. (dream most likely, lol) |
