We are proud to announce that Yahoo! has agreed to purchase SearchIRC for an undisclosed sum. Everyone here at the SearchIRC team is thrilled to be joining the Yahoo! family. Yahoo! has decided to expand their search efforts, and clearly SearchIRC was an appropriate choice. Our services will assist Yahoo! in indexing all of the world's information. SearchIRC is another great addition to Yahoo!'s family of Web 2.0 sites.

Don't worry, all of the current SearchIRC staff will stay on board at Yahoo! so we can continue to provide quick and fast service as we always have. However, due to corporate policy - we will be removing all Warez listings, as well as any network that carries any warez activity.

About Yahoo!
Our mission is to be the most essential global Internet service for consumers and businesses. How we pursue that mission is influenced by a set of core values - the standards that guide interactions with fellow Yahoos, the principles that direct how we service our customers, the ideals that drive what we do and how we do it. Many of our values were put into practice by two guys in a trailer some time ago; others reflect ambitions as our company grows. All of them are what we strive to achieve every day.

About SearchIRC
SearchIRC was created by Jason Hamilton, an IRC administrator who recognized a need in the IRC community. Server resources are a valuable commodity. A good deal of bandwidth and cpu is used by people who run /list to get a network's current channel listings for their own personal use. Its not easy to find specific topics or channels in the thousands of channels returned by large networks. What if your friends tell you to meet them in a channel, but you have no idea which network? You can't go hopping from network to network, running /list to see where they are.

There had to be a better way.

So SearchIRC was born.

Hmm... I dunno what to say to this, personally I loathe Yahoo (but thats just personal preference), and I really enjoy the non-corporate nature that SearchIRC had about it (it wasn't under the control of some legal team where every decision took months to do -- I'm still trying to convince one network to upgrade...).

Oh well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. SearchIRC can only improve, I suppose

Well, there goes rizon, EFnet, Undernet, Quakenet (generally, the 4 largest networks that are indexed), and maybe a few hundred of the smaller networks that promote xDCC/warez.

2 and a half grand? screw that dude...
Trademe (local auction site) went for 700 million... however, the buy-out made TM worse (their success commission - ie: if you sell something, you're expected to pay a percentage of the auction funds to trademe as a fee, which is fair enough - just doubled)

yeah :) I wouldn't bother selling for $2,000. My costs for JUST hardware and bandwidth over the years is well over 15x that amount.
