I think having to post 5 times to start a new topic has been real annoying lately. I know it can help prevent spam, however there have been lots of people just randomly hijacking threads and posting nonesense just so they can go ahead and post a new topic in the "Help wanted" section and post about their network.
opinions? |

| I don't really recall ever seeing many spambot posts. I guess it's because a moderator's removed them before I get a chance to see them. This recent spam from new users though I can't fail to notice. |

Problem solved :) |

| i agree about the 5 message requirement before posting a new thread being a poor idea. i'm searching the forums, trying to find threads i might be able to offer somthing useful to, and i'm not having much luck. i'd really like to just be able to introduce my network, without posting useless bs first. |

I have to agree also. With all of the silliness previlant in many (most?) threads, it is hard to find anything serious to add any thoughts to.
However, it is a good idea that any new networks being offered by being listed here should maybe be required to contribute possitive and helpful comments and posts, or else not bother. There are just too many "ha! LOL" type responses in threads. Makes wading through them to find real information a bit difficult and time consuming.
But then.... I am old, and time is a bit of an issue with old people. We don't really have enough of it left to waste on petty chit. |

I guess I can see the reason why people would request others to make 5 posts before making a topic of their own. It is a way to stop certain things, but at the same time it does not really stop people from making cheap commentary that no one cares to read, as others have pointed out. One line responses generally do take up a lot of sections on the board and I agree with Mex that it can be a pain to wade through them all to get to the actual help.
I see the point that someone may simply not want to respond to other posts and may really have an issue he/she wants brought forward, but at least we can be grateful it's only 5 posts mandatory for such a thing instead of 25. = |

| I don't think the five post thing just to speak on General is such a good idea. |

Moot point. I am in the process of coding up my own forum software. All of this will be replaced in the near future.
I will be able to pull all accounts and posts into my new forum, so don't worry about losing anything. |

Spambots would be automated im guessing, can probably just have a simple 'click here to be able to post new topics' link show up after registering or something outta the norm |
