If you dont know much about it, and i really dont know VI very well, just write the motd with notepad, and do a CTRL + K in the mirc like u would for a text color, enter the number, then copy that to the notepad file, then save it as ircd.motd and then upload it. |

This isn't a good idea at all. People have different background colors, they don't all go well with colors.
People also customize their IRC client colors for a reason, so it sucks when someone changes the colors... |

Well it's my network lol and i want colours - anyway i figured out an easier way:
go into the document with vi (vi ircd.motd)
then go into insert mode (i)
then press ctrl and v together (ctrl+v)
then press ctrl and c together (ctrl+c)
then hit whatever no. in mirc which corresponds to the colour you want, i wanted bright green (9)
so it should look like
^C9
for bold just
(ctrl+v)(ctrl+b)(ctrl+v)(ctrl+c)(9)
so it should look like
^B^C9 |

It might not be such a good idea if someone breaks the rules, and when asked why, says "well i couldnt read them, they were obscured by the pretty colours!" |

| Haha, if they break the rules, seeing as the rules are all common sense type ones, then they must be half a cup full of sand short of a glass anyway and i probably wouldn't want them on my network to start off with. |

I have experimented with adding colors to vhosts and whois lines for operators. Just paste the ^C character into the configuration and add your color number and you hae a colored hostname for your staff |

| Just my opinion, but it appears to me that you're assuming that most people actually read the motd in the first place. |

| If you dont mine me saying..Please dont put color in your MOTD. It just looks down. And keep formatting down to just bold. And make sure MOTD is no longer than a page long..If you want anyone to read it. |
