Hello,

I'm a complete newbie to the forum. I just found this place tonight. I joined in the hopes that i'd find some answers and help to a few things i'm trying to set up.

I'm currently running UnrealIrcd 3.2.3 on a windows machine (XP). The server itself is just a personal thing for a few close friends so i'm not worried about a lot of users, etc. I'm looking for some services to set up but i'm not finding much. The few that i'm finding are reading like japanese stereo instructions! LoL.

Can anyone here suggest a good decent services package that would work with a windows machine, and with unrealircd that wouldn't require me going through brain surgery to install? LoL.

Thanks in advance.

I checked out Anope. I have no idea what file i'm expected to download. I assume i should download the stable build (1.6?) but does it matter which file i should download?

Download anope-1.4.14-1.6.4.diff.gz 682610 82 Platform-Independent Source Patch/Diff
Download anope-1.6.3-1.6.4.diff.gz 3640 63 Platform-Independent Source Patch/Diff
Download anope-1.6.4.tar.gz 878965 1800 Any Source .gz

They all say platform independent or "any" so do i just pick one and go with it?

Deadnotburied, that link took me to their forums, but i didn't fish around to find their actual services download. Maybe i'll look for it again later...

for a version that runs on Windows, you'll want the file with an .exe extension.
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/anope/Anope-1.7.12.exe?download should be what you're looking for. a file with a .tar.gz extension is for *nix.

There's also a Win32 release of Atheme, see www.atheme.org for details.

That's what i thought but wasn't entirely sure. I know there are windows utilities that could open those files but i shouldn't have to go through that trouble.

So basically, as far as Anope is concerned, there is no stable build for windows? I'd have to download a potentially unstable DEV copy of version 7.12? That sucks !

I'll check out those other links. Thanks for your help everyone. I'm sure you'll hear from me again on this topic.

why the hate? Anope does everything a Network Owner could possibly ask for or demand out of a services package... then then some. So, again, why do you hate Anope (and please do list valid reasons)

Anope works really well. There is also a windows version of IRC services called QuickServ II which isnt in development anymore. I use to run the beta testing team there for them and helped out with technical support on the product. It wasnt to bad to use for beginners and small nets.
