Also, think of it this way .. Do you think Chevrolet ever said "no we don't need to build a car .. Ford already does"?? Very Happy

Chevy came into being by doing things differently than Ford, not by duplicating Ford. That's different than saying, let's basically duplicate the exact same tutorials available everywhere else (what shell provider doesn't have a "how to setup an ircd" tutorial?) simply for the purpose of having our own site.

w00t, go to the help section, pick a topic, let us know you want to work on building something for that topic and then start writing Smile

*sigh* If you re-read the entire thread you will find that I never said anything about doing things the same or different .. nor did I ever mention the term "duplicate" for that fact. Please do not confuse your assumptions with my statements.

What I suggested is a forum (which irchelp is does not have, their tutorials are static) that offers tutorials. By having forums(theres that word again) it allows for user interaction and feedback.

http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/irctutorial.html

In th above link there is no possible way to have interactive feedback for the general public. What if the user has questions? What if there is a debatable topic in the tutorial? How can others convey different ways of doing the same thing? ... the simple answer is: They cant.

No you're absolutely right, irchelp doesn't have this, however, irc-junkie has EXACTLY this http://www.irc-junkie.org/viewforum.php?f=10

Yes that's exactly it, however they have no where near the same size userbase. their 700+ users vs SIRC's 12k+. I understand that size isn't everything .. but it is a huge factor.

Besides, I invision this would be an ideal project for the IRC-AG.

We already have a section in the forums called IRC Help - but no one has posted any tutorials.

We hope to build the Help Directory into something that will not only explain (for example) what an eggdrop is, and how they are used on IRC, but also help you set it up on a shell, configure it for your channel, and discover all of its potential. The nice thing about the Help Directory is, we can give a lot of people access, so its more of a combined knowledge base, ie, wikipedia-like, that could be changed and updated frequently, than a one time post from one individual on one subject, which would be a tutorial in a forum. Jason can definitely add a comments section for each subject, like he did with IRCImages. That would allow users to ask questions, and the editors to provide further instruction or information.
