This is the truncated portion of my earlier post.
angelic:
Although these aren't "downfalls" (as such), since you mention it, there are a few cosmetic issues with Anope which I have found.
The first being numeric 307 (RPL_WHOISREGNICK) being sent if a user sends a WHOIS request to a BotServ bot.
On IRCds which do support user mode +r (Unreal, Bahamut, Ultimate, &c.):
The bot's nickname isn't "registered" (it's occupied, yes, though not "registered"), so Anope shouldn't send that reply string.
Perhaps something like "is a network bot" would be more fitting (and accurate).
On IRCds which do not support user mode +r (Hybrid, Ratbox, &c.):
That reply is still sent!
It looks ugly and unprofessional.
The reply string would be best omitted, or even changed to "is a network bot" (as I suggested above).
I've found that although the bots' "sign on" time will mirror that of the Anope start-up, their "idle time" is the time since that bot had been created.
Also, somewhere in 1.7.*, an arbitrary space has fallen into the WHOIS replies.

Hopefully these quirks shall be fixed by the next release.

did you post this to the feature requests list on anope's site?
i'd say it has more chance of being seen and acted upon there, even though anope developers browse these boards
good idea though... |

No, I haven't.
RPL_WHOISREGNICK has been bothering me for a long time, and only recently something was broken to introduce that space. Apparently no one else has noticed.
Hopefully one of the developers will notice the posts here.

Yeah i noticed it (while discussing this actually) Don't expect it in 1.7.10 yet, but 1.7.11 will probably have this fixed (if we fix it). |

We send 307 because we make nick records for them, basically to claim the nick as registered, (you can /ns info that nick etc) whether or not we should send that numeric for ircd's without a +r is debatable, we treat the nick as registered which is all the numeric says. Just because someone hasn't typed /ns register doesn't mean the nick isn't, indeed, registered.

Oh what a debate you caused
Personally i think what we do is technically right. Others on the dev team disagree. We do agree that removing that numeric and using the is a network services RPL instead makes more sense and we'll look to do this for thenext release (though it missed packaging for 1.7.10).

I don't quite understand what you mean here and i can't see a space in what you quoted or when i tested, could you expand a bit?
As a side note, i hope you can see the difference in your thread and the previous one, even if it is just in the tone you used to convey your issues. |

An extra space has been dropped in after both the server description and GECOS fields. Most clients (exempli gratia, mIRC) ignore this.
