NEED A cheap IRCd host!

Hi,
I'm starting a new server but i need a very cheap host to start with for a year because i want to see how it does beofre i start spending money on it and currently i also have a tight budget. any ideas would be a great help. Cheers.

It's been my experience that as far as ircds go you get what you pay for. If you go on the cheap you're pretty much going to get a cheap server with more downtime than uptime.

Look around, ask around and get some feedback from people that have been there, done that. There are a few good providers that post to these forums so some research right here will probably produce good results for you.

Also I wouldn't suggest betting your network on just one server. I'd get at least 2-on 2 different providers so if one goes down, the other is still up. Otherwise, your network is totally down if that one provider dies or gets ddosd.

i offer ircd shells cheaper than what most do. my net runs off the machine that i sell shells off of, and its been up over 32 days (only went down for a quick reboot). i have users connected to two fairly large nets, one of them being Rizon. downtime is definitely minimal.

Also, I wouldn't commit to a year contract with a provider without using them first-go monthly at first, try them out for a month or so, make sure they aren't too cheap to be stable. Once you know they are stable, then look at increasing your contract.

If you do a year, the only way you'll get your money back is if the provider is honest, and you have so much downtime that the provider won't have any choice but to refund you-or, in some instances, providers start up, sign up yearly people, then decide after 4 months of DDos to close-and you don't see your money ever again.

you could always try http://www.vitalspeeds.com i have always found them excelent, and they have a room on efnet #vitalspeeds

about unlimited bandwith nothing is unlimited and for unlimitedness do you want 100 other people on the box using as much bandwidth as they possiably can??
