|
|
Following on from various posts I've made on other forums (mostly the My Channels one) about channel stats, and the frequency at which they update, I'd like to suggest timestamping them. That way it would be obvious to anyone viewing the stats for a channel whether "Current Users" means *current* users, or users at 3am this morning when the bot last checked....
Just an idea.
Keep up the top work everyone - in case I haven't mentioned I think you're doing a fantastic job!
hugs,

It's called "freshness" and it's already available on all channel listings.
Freshness rating: "Freshness" was developed because giving information like "I last saw this channel at 21:32 Zulu Mountain time" doesn't mean anything. Unused channels are automatically expired after not being seen for a week. Using a complex algorithm, we are also able to weed out temporarily created channels (You know the type... like the guy who joins #ircops_suck just before he's klined). The result is less fluff, and better results. But that still doesn't explain freshness... Since normal channels take up to a week to expire, freshness rating is a calculation of how far the listing is from being expired. Listings with a freshness of 99% or 100% are very recent. A channel with a freshness of 50% means it's not been seen for 3 1/2 days. Thus, at a glance, you can quickly tell if a channel will be something you'd like to check out or not. A low freshness rating doesn't necessarily indicate an outdated channel however. It could also mean network problems like netsplits, channel being set to mode +s (secret), or could indicate a channel that meets occasionally. |

Okay, that's good But is there any way to add the freshness rating to the stats shown on the "my channel" page?
Thanks,

Okay - thanks anyway. But consider it a request to add to your (probably very long!) list. It's something I'd like to see in the future.

| One of the things I still need to get into the mychannel is on the 4th page - it should have an option for an embedded java applet. That takes priority over all else (except for bug fixes) as far as work on mychannel :) |
