Every policy on a network is put in place for the integrity of that network, eventho to yuo it may seem like someone pulling the reigns in a little tight.
Thus, if a given workplace or school has banned the ports used for IRC, then they must have reasons to do so. Circumventing such restrictions will only draw attention to you from the IT support dept and from managment.
Mouselike: as well and good as your advice may be in different situations, in this situation, you radvice was bad in the sense that you are risking someone their employment, their income and their lifestyle -- do you really want the responsibility for causing that?
