Sure, it has it's downside, but it has its upside too... Grouping of snotices etc.

I don't quite understand what you mean by grouping of SNOTICEs.

You don't need to send server notices (SNOTICEs) to channels to be able to discuss things that have occured on the network, you simply need some sort of oper channel.

Ya know what? After experimenting with ircd 2.11 personally, this wouldn't be possible anyway. The snotice channels are +amnqt. Anyone who's read RFC2811 knows this means: anonymous (all commands from users to this channel are anonymous!anonymous@anonymous (INCLUDING JOIN/PART/QUIT!!!)) moderated (duh) no extern (duh) quiet (like Unreal's +u - no join/part shown, it appears as if you're the only user) topiclock (duh). Also these channels have no ops. When you /list, they appear with the number of users "listening" - plus 1, so I assume this means the IRCd has some kind of psuedoclient in these channels to make them show even when no one is there. So you don't see anyone else in these channels, and since no one is opped or voiced and the channel is moderated (there is NO oper override in ircd2.11), you can't talk either Razz . So essentially they are IDENTICAL to the snomasks, except they use the channel routines to do the dirty work.

Also, IRCd's implementation of the "channel owner" sucks eggs. The "owner" is given no protection what so ever. Apparently, the owner status can only be granted/changed by a server, and whoever currently has it, loses it if that user is -o'd by ANYONE. Personally, this is kinda weird. The "original operator" as IRCd calls it should be special in some way, and thus protected from the other operators. Oh well, only IRCnet uses it anyway, so why do I care? Razz
