at the time we started phministries, there were not alot of true christian networks out there. Alot of them judged others and were ban happy. So we decided to take a room we had and give it its own home, so people would have a place to chat where they would not be judged and also not be banned f0r no reason.

Personally i was tired of Networks that have snobbish IRC ops (when i say snobbish, i mean like >10k networks), I felt looked down to, along with others.
Also to learn the knolledge of how to mantain an IRC network, Configuring, also gaining UNIX knolledge.
Sense we were a group that felt the same we created TotalIRC, witch i beleive are kindhearted people, that donate a service to the internet.
Eagering to offer support, help, providing a service that others would use.
Also due to lack of real democracy IRC networks, some that say they are democracy IRC networks, are'nt realy democracy.
The start of it was to also create a home for the danish IRC'ers.

Our network was created basically for the sole purpose of providing a stable network for my most fav. channel Very Happy The channel had moved several times before and everyone knows when you move you lose users (literally as in they can't find you). Instability and bad management of some of the previous networks was also a problem. Making our own solved everything since we controlled the level of politics involved and we had more control over stability.

Plus we wanted to create a unique theme based network so that toon lovers could go to one spot to get everything they needed - instead of a zillion different networks.

I created my IRC network out of boredom. It's the truth. I promise.

I needed the money, oh wait, there is no money in this! Seriously, we were a pretty closely knit bunch of friends, and wanted a place to test our irc service projects. I didn't do it for the experience (I got that from other nets), and we didn't set out to create one of those "friendly IRC networks," where users views are taken into consideration. It was purely for fun, which is probably why the network is still around and going strong. We didn't strive for unrealistic goals. It probably wasn't the smartest of things we've ever done, but I can't say I regret doing it.

TBH, I started my network originally on 127.0.0.1 just to play around with differnt ircds/services. When I started I never thought it would go public. But a few friends wanted to connect, and then they invited their friends, so I got a shell, and started the network Winbots.org.
yeah yeah, but it eventually came to having NY link, then MacRowe(crap crap crap crap), then meh server, then Legend and Fatal.

Originally started mine to learn about services/servers and such and got a few friends who joined and it grew for a bit. Also don't care for alot of the other administrators/ircops attitudes on some networks who think they are "holier than thou" because they're an ircop. Just started my own for me and a few friends and whoever else. Then I had other things happen which kept me from keeping it up and running. Mine was eventually absorbed by a friend's where I chill now. It was fun when I had it though, and definently worth it.

The two networks I NetAdmin, I got the title by promotion, not by starting either of the networks. Why? Because I don't have an original idea for a network. I don't have a good idea for starting one. So, rather than increase the number of little networks, I just help the existing networks where possible Very Happy

amen to that Ed.... there is very little point in starting a new network anymore unless you are special and have a great new idea or you just want to learn, help those established smaller nets grow!

When I started out the "network" (if you can call a net with 2 / 3 servers a network) started out as a playground to get to know the other side of this thing called IRC. I think we peaked at about 5 users back then (services not included) and it was fun. We started out with ircu, a few months later moved onto ptlink and that has run for almost a year. Then rumours started popping up about exploits in ptlink which made use move to Hybrid. We didn't like Hybserv and ended up with Anope, and on the Anope website I read some stories about Unreal, tried it and one month later the network was converted. It was then when I was wondering if we could put our expertise to some good use.

Back then a friend of mine got in the middle of UnderNet's new policy against DDoS (which seems to be dropping opers like flies, including the veteran ones who never seem to be unavailable for help at times) and he ran a network almost the same size as mine. A good solid discussion and our mutual doubts about UnderNet was the base for a linkup.

As to why; I guess it boils down to provide a solid IRC service which doesn't house a bunch of people playing oper, but instead focusses on what really matters; getting some lusers a nice place to chat.

pretty much the same for me. also the fact that i didnt really feel comfortable on most of the nets a visited and people were getting pissed off at me when i was testing my eggdrop scripts on their nets, for example, when the bot would go a bit crazy, ive lost count of how many times i got killed for that...

I started my network because I have a passion for IRC (yes I know it sounds lame).. I just have a thing for working on servers and setting up things, I do help other admins get their stuff together so they can have their own networks too, but I started mine because I was tired of seing people treated poorly, being banned, made fun of, ddosd, whatever the case may be, I didn't find it the right thing to do, and you'll find alot of networks these days with power hungry admins and users.

This is why National-Anarchy has been created, we do have some rules, not major ones and their very simple and easy to abide by, /me pastes.

- Network Rules:
-
- 1.) No XDCC bots.
-
- 2.) No DDoS bots or attacks against any user or server on this network.
-
- 3.) No user and/or admin abuse.
-
- 4.) No Warez.
-
- 5.) No Child Pornography (18+ Only)
-
- 6.) No Server/Channel Spamming.
-
- 7.) No begging for o:lines and vhosts.
-
- 8.) No Racist Remarks/Slurs
End of RULES command.

I myself find those to be pretty simple and straight forward rules don't you?

Its a good network, about 120 users constantly, which for being a new network without warez or shitloads of bots isn't all that bad. Everyone is welcome unless you only plan on going to cause problems, but for the most part its a pretty nice and fun place to hang out on. Anyways, yeah thats why I started my network Smile

Very good point. Why I now run a server on a network, instead of starting another one. Are quite a number of small, densly populated networks out there.
