|
|
Hello,
I know very little about IRC. I paid someone at elance to help set up a chat room. That worked fine, but then I asked that a notification feature showing the chat room was in use be added to my site.
Now, that company has been bought out and my chat room now shows the following message when I enter:
| Quote: | | irc.limelight.us --- Banned Temporary K Line 10080 min - clones are prohibited |
What does this mean and how do I fix it? The new service company says they cannot do anything about the notification feature until this is resolved. The chat room is from JPilot and since the ban has nothing to do with the app, there's no support there.
Why would I be banned from my own chat room and how do I get this removed? Thanks. |

You've got two options:
1) wait till the k-line time has passed
2) contact the server admins of irc.limelight.us via email at irc@limelight.us and explain them the same way you wrote this question and ask them if its possible to remove the k-line....
Good luck! |

| Quote: | | irc.limelight.us --- Banned Temporary K Line 10080 min - clones are prohibited | means that you are not banned from your channel but from the network the channel is on. It also can be seen that you are probably banned for clones. Clones are many users who connect from the same host/ip. |

trandle, hiring someone to set up an IRC chatroom is a bit like hiring someone to let you access WalMart. :)
If you have very specific needs and require a high degree of security, then a commercial chat product and an isolated server may be more appropriate. But if you just want a place to talk to people, then I am sure any one of the 800+ IRC networks SearchIRC lists will be more than happy to help you set up your chatroom on their network.
I am sure some eager admins will follow up here, but if you still need help just stop in to #searchirc on irc.searchirc.com (SearchIRC's help channel), and we'll help you get started. |

| The network is limelight.us. Try emailing kline@limelight.us, or maybe they have a website? |

irc.limelight.us is an EFnet server. http://searchirc.com/servers/efnet will give you a list of alternate servers for that network. trandle, you can probably access your channel through SearchIRC's JPilot by joining ANY EFnet channel, then parting it (/part #channelname) and joining your channel (/join #yourchannel).
EFnet is a great network, but its not a good place for a self-professed IRC newbie to set up their first channel, because EFnet doesn't support channel "ownership". Whoever has ops in the channel, owns it: if it was yours and someone has taken it over, too bad - go start another channel. IRC ops will not help you get it back. But even if you sign on and discover its okay, I would recommend relocating your channel to another network if you need a permanent chat presence. You will still be able to use JPilot to access it, you'll just have to modify the setup code a little to reflect the new network name. |

moonman,
Sorry, but I'm already working with Jedi. Can you please tell me what the benefit is to having someone use your network? I don't understand why it seems to be slightly competitive amongst "eager admins" to use mregit's term. Thanks. |

moonman,
I did not specifically mean "your" network, I just meant any specific network. I don't understand the business model and/or the end goal. Thanks. |
