Frz, there used to be some win32 programs that would launch a connection to a bunch of networks and perform /whois lookups for users you were looking for.
Please read the old thread that details that program and others:

| AFAIK there aren't any programs that will connect to all networks to find a person. But any IRC client can be used to connect to a network where you can then /whois. |

Just let all the networks make a list of current users available online
(db / xml) and search there
I think it's a great option! and if possible to make it for more networks .
Keep up the good work!

I don't expect searchIRC to burn all that bandwith for a whois feature on my network. They burn enough as it is checking stats on it every X minutes.
If someone needs to see if someone is on my network, they can join it and whois |

Is there a way you can use the users and their clients themselves as the whois program?
Such as some downloadable media that could be installed to IRC and could be used for whois'ing?
I dunno, something that would become centralised or decentralised maybe, like p2p networks, except this would whois from a hub server etc. |

Hi
I really like this site, only one problem, I wish that you could search for a channel and then the people who are in that channel are shown (nicknames) I believe this would be a good idea
thanks

Not possible.
It would allow for users to be harassed. The current /whois implementation is allowed because you need to know the user's nick in order to look at it.
Also, channel users can't always be seen, so it would only partially work. |

What about a /who <nick> search?
to find ip's and such.. say /who xxx.xxx.x.gov for instance. |
