I like the idea of being able to get online and come to searchirc and do a whois very nice feature.. but with all of most other things some people may disagree and say that it is a invasion of privacy and so forth..
Example: a user gets into a argument with some other person and decides to leave and go to a different network to "get away" the other person can come here and do a /whois and see where he or she went and then cause them more probs....
( some people aren`t smart enough to change there nick ) |

Anyway the person can go on the nets and search /whois himself. This feature will just save time.
It's funny when someone works and makes a great feature, people try to make it look bad and make it closed. grrrr.... |

Umm.. that's because it can be exploited! He has his own right to bring up the point =/
But then again, _everything_ can be exploited. |

Honestly, if you got in a 'fight' with someone, I would think the FIRST thing I would do if I didn't want them to find me (ie I was being stalked) would be to change my nickname.
And if you're having that serious of a problem with someone, I think perhaps a call to law enforcement would be in order also. |

If it is bad enough, that changing your nick, and using /ignore will not help, then it probably a case of harassment, and you should contact local law enforcement. |

| Yeah-I didn't mean call the cops because someone is messing with you, if you are changing nicks and they are still making threats, then its not messing with you, its becoming stalking, and that big of a problem requires an outside force to be reckoned with. |

The 'global /whois' function is great, but being able to check more networks would be good.
Here's an idea: have an option where one individual network could be tested, possibly chosen from a pop-up menu. Then a 'bot could be sent to the network to check, then come backw ith the results.
Of course, you'd need to display some text on the page that such a custom search could take several minutes for a result (whilst the bot is sent off to the network, loaded, and the check made).

Brains, I don't know how likely that is to impliment. I've already had a lot of complaints about the existing system being too slow.
Also I think anything done should be done on a fairly large scale. Checking one network.... well, anyone with an irc client could do the same with a simple /server command :) |

| I like the feature but I'd love to have it for more networks... so an ot question is there any tool wich I could install locally which would go to a lot of irc servers do a whois and give me the result? |
