What do people do to interact/integrate more than just IRC on their network?
For example, Im on the admin team for a gaming website for Tribes players in Australia/New Zealand, www.bittah.com - and as of a few months ago setup an irc server to better support everyone as an alternative to an old one.
Ive currently integrated channel lists/simplified joining the chat server via the chat link on the main menu (check it out, its pretty neat )
I am thinking of intergating a bot to help with the server (specifically a gaming bot, that listens for commands to track friends/find where friends are, see whos on what server etc, things like that) to better make our network more than just IRC
Anyone have any experience in adding such things? To make it more than just an irc-ing experience which can be found just about anywhere |

Well, actually if you are a skilled scripter I have been working on a game bot of my own for about 4 months now. Currently it can play dice or blackjack, give players HP, MP, and Money, has a 10-item store players can purchase from, and players can initiate combat with each other or monsters. It's super buggy though and nowhere near complete, and I doubt it will be for some time. If you'd like to help, I'd be glad to let you use it on your network, though I was planning on not giving the code out to anyone.
I would only suggest doing this if you are very skilled at mIRC scripting, though, because the Remotes section is 60 pages long when copied into a .txt file and the Aliases section is 73. God knows how long the variables section is since I have a bunch of my own personal-use variables mixed in there, and it also involves 4 .ini files of varying length. |

If I'm reading this correctly (please forgive my mistakes), you're looking for a bot that sits on your Tribes server, but listens for commands from your IRC network's channel. That sounds like something that could be written in Perl without too much difficulty. I'm pretty familiar with the IRC protocol, but the Tribes (Tribes 2?) protocol is completely foreign to me. However, since I just recently became a Tribes player myself, I might be interested in pursuing this little project. If you'd like, shoot me an e-mail (it's in my profile) with some of the specifics of this, and I'd be happy to work with you on it (for free, of course). In fact, this may end up being something of use to the entire IRC community.
Also, if I'm mistaken and what you're looking for isn't an IRC/Tribes bot, go ahead and ignore the above and correct me. |

Nah not a Tribes bot, although I could do it
Im just wondering how other networks integrate IRC into their website, so its not such a separate entity! |

Well, an excellent example of IRC/web integration is the IRC network GameSurge's website (http://searchirc.com/www/GameSurge). They have some really impressive stuff on there with regards to statistics and web-based registration.
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with GameSurge in any official manner, nor do I regularly visit the IRC network; just an admirer of their integrating capabilities. |
