Hi,
If you have a server or network and are interested in linking with another network give us a yell. You can retain your network or server name. Stop by #30s1 on irc.global-irc-networks.net if you are interested.

There is an excellent definition of "IRC network" on http://www.newircusers.com/network.html I quote: "There are many IRC networks. Each network is a separate entity unto itself. One network DOES NOT connect to another network. The networks DO NOT share common servers."
The word "network" is being misapplied to servers or groups of servers that have created a unique identity under one domain name. Recently we're seeing 'mergers' where linking servers keep their name and dns, virtual networks are set up so multiple false fronts lead to the same net, and metanetworks. Not all networks are up front about the situation. In fact, some go to great lengths to hide the fact they are linked to other servers and share their userbase.
Just keep in mind that these new systems are still just ONE physical network, and IRC list sites such as SearchIRC MUST treat them as one network (if accepted at all) in order to keep our data accurate, and to be fair to other networks who choose to brand themselves with only one name.
Think carefully before entering such a situation. If the network admins don't choose a name for the new network, we'll try to determine who is the dominant, or "parent" net and use that name. Other names the network uses will NOT be listed as "networks" on SearchIRC. They will be listed under "other names" on the network page for the parent network. |

Ok....guess u are right there. I wrote that in a hurry. My mistake!! I mean servers. We are just ONE network. One website, one network, one services and all servers resolve to the same place...global-irc-networks. Actually we have 10 servers linked there already which is plenty, but I am always willing to let someone else link, if they run the right kind of server. No clones, 100's of bots etc... We are just a group of friends there, having fun! Also, if global address did not resolve for you, the dns server must have been down. Dont happen to often, but from time to time...it does.

sexyeyes, I didn't mean anything against you or your network. In fact, I think honest, open metanetworks are a worthy experiment, and certainly worth some discussion.
Unfortunately there are a few networks that are not as open or honest as you are, and I got a bit too preachy about it on your thread. My apologies. |
