1) SearcIRC actually makes very little money. Not nearly enough to support itself. Jason has many out-of-pocket expenses.
2) The aim of SearchIRC is an IRC Search Engine. It would be unfair if we started our own IRC network to compete with other networks. (Actually, we do have an IRC network already - but it is strictly a support network.) |

The ads on the site don't even pay for 1/3rd of the server/bandwidth fees.
I pay for the rest myself.
You do not want to know how much this site has cost me since 2000. |

| What keeps him going is the reward of him knowing he is doing the IRC community a great service and we all appreciate that. Do you take donations Jason? Id like to make one. |

I think what fuels me is much the same that fuels anyone who runs an IRC network. Ask yourself why there are so many of us out there :)
As far as donations, I don't want to start asking anyone for money. Right now the only way to contribute to SearchIRC is to buy a button advertisement. That not only helps defray some of the operating costs of SearchIRC, but helps advertise your IRC network in return. |

SearchIRC is great as it is. And i do know that it makes no money atall and i think Jason shows how dedicated he is running as a project rather than a company, he does it because he wants to. I've seen some statistics on the bandwidth useage and looking at that and looking at how much he gets for advertisements you willsoon realise it no way adds up.. He's a good guy *claps* it's a great site. It would be a bad move going corperate and money grabbing. Jason could make alot from advertising if he wanted to but that's not the idea of this project.
PS: Sorry if i rambled on a bit. |
