U is right, this is not a new idea and it will never work. |
I feel you've raised a very valid point here. Spreading power too thinly across a number of staff tends to get you nowhere, at least from what I've experienced anyway (it just leads to bickering and stalemates). |

The bottom line is, someones gotta be in charge, and someone has to take overall responsibility for the entire network. That being said, I know I wouldn't take overall responsibility for a network without having some kind of control over it.
For example, lets say you own the domain name. Do you honestly want other people doing what they want under a name you own, that, if something major happened, by owning said domain name, you're automatically a party to whatever activity it was? And then, if you're not in charge, you couldn't put a stop to something you are liable for?
By virtue of it being a network, it would only take one bad seed to do something wrong, and then you're left holding the bag.
Good luck with it-but I can see fighting already. Heck, there isn't a channel on IRC where people come begging for ops, get them and then lay waste to it-that can happen easily on the network level too-it only takes one person given the access to do so. You won't know how they are till you let them link-and one bad day, one wrong thing said, and they could leave-destroying all you built, or at least driving everyone away before they leave.
So someone is going to have to be in charge, and someones going to have to set standards, at a minimum |
